‘I’ve Got Kids Myself:’ Police Officer Steps in to Watch Toddler While her Dad Is in Court
A dad waiting to go into a courtroom to address a parking ticket found himself in a bit of a pickle after he learned that he wasn’t allowed to bring his 2-year-old daughter into the courtroom. Jose’s adorable toddler, Abi, had already explored the hallway and the entryway as much as possible and was getting restless with the long wait.
It wasn’t an option to leave his daughter all alone, but Jose didn’t have any back-up – that was until a “local hero” intervened! Officer Kevin Norris of the Orem Police Department, and a dad himself, saw the predicament that Jose was in and grabbed Abi’s hand.
Officer Norris offered to babysit Abi while Jose was in court. “I’ve got kids myself,” Officer Norris told 2News. “I know what it is to have rambunctious kids, and it’s hard to take them anywhere.” He entertained Abi, escorted her around the courthouse, got her some treats and showed her cartoons. She had a blast and decided to take a nap – and she felt asleep in the officer’s arms! “We’re not just officers who are out there to arrest people,” Officer Norris added. “We’re out there to make our community a better place.”
