No matter how young, healthy and fit you are, the flu can be deadly. In the case of 21-year-old fitness guru and bodybuilder, Kyler Baughman, he was struck with flu symptoms and while his coughing and fever worsened he just stuck it out. Tragically, the flu killed him.

“I think he thought, ‘I just got the flu; I’ll be all right,’” his mother, Beverly Baughman, told NBC affiliate WPXI. Baughman returned to work, but couldn’t make it through the day. He went to a nearby hospital, in western Pennsylvania and then was flown to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, but it was too late. On Dec. 28, the fit young man with his entire life ahead of him, died of “organ failure due to septic shock caused by influenza.”

Now his parents are pleading with the public to act fast if you have the flu. “Try and know your body. Don’t let things go,” Kyler Baughman’s heartbroken father, Todd, told WPXI in tears. “Whenever you have a fever for multiple days, don’t let it go, get it taken care of.”
