Honest Employee Requests Time Off for Mental Health, Her Boss’ Reply Is the Best…
It’s 2017 and more people need to realize that your mental health is just as important as your physical health, yet when it comes to work, many people don’t apply it. (We should all learn from the Royal family’s Heads Together mental health campaign in the U.S.) However, one awesomely honest employee in Ann Arbor, Mich. didn’t hold back when she needed a couple of days off for her mental health.
Madalyn Parker, a web developer at Olark, emailed her team and told them that she was taking two days to focus on her mental health, so she could return feeling “refreshed and back to 100 %.” Parker was so moved by her CEO’s response that she shared it on Twitter – and it’s gone viral.
Not only did he thank her and stress the importance of using sick days for mental health, he pointed out that he couldn’t “believe that this isn’t standard practice at all organizations.” The best part was when he said Parker is an “example for us all, and help cut through the stigma so we can all bring our whole selves to work.”
